Britons are facing extended delays in receiving their packages due to the collapse of a prominent courier company. Pedal and Post abruptly announced its closure, impacting Evri’s delivery services in Oxford’s Clean Air Zone. This situation has caused disruptions and tardiness in deliveries for residents of the city.
Carol Leonard, a Grandpont resident in Oxford, expressed frustration as several parcels she ordered in late January, including special cat food and litter, were delayed. Despite being dispatched for delivery, the parcels remained stagnant at the depot until February 10, two weeks after placing the orders. An Evri representative highlighted their high parcel delivery success rate of over 900 million annually.
The sudden shutdown of their e-cargo bike delivery partner in Oxford caught Evri off guard, leading to temporary service disruptions for a limited number of customers. Evri swiftly restructured their delivery operations in the region to restore normal service, with a focus on minimizing inconveniences. The company apologized to affected customers, including Carol, confirming the successful delivery of her parcel.
Pedal and Post attributed its closure to the loss of a major client earlier in the year, resulting in the shutdown of its Oxford and London branches. CEO Christopher Benton disclosed that approximately 60 employees, a combination of self-employed and full-time workers, have been laid off due to the closure. Benton emphasized the challenges of maintaining an ethical workforce in an industry dominated by self-employment.
Benton clarified that the company’s closure was not a reflection of cargo bike usage or logistical issues but rather a consequence of losing a crucial client. He refrained from revealing the client’s identity, citing contractual obligations. Financial details were also withheld pending further discussions with liquidators.
