In his statement on Truth Social, Trump expressed satisfaction with the “very good and productive” talks between the United States and Iran over the past two days regarding a potential comprehensive resolution of the tensions in the region. The temporary pause in military strikes, lasting for five days, is contingent on the progress of the ongoing meetings and dialogues between the two nations.
Trump emphasized that the decision to hold off on military actions against Iranian power facilities and energy infrastructure was based on the constructive nature of the discussions, which are set to continue throughout the week. The president thanked the public for their attention to the matter and signed off as “President Donald J. Trump.”
This development follows Trump’s ultimatum to Iran, demanding the country lift its blockade on the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours or face severe consequences. In response, Iran issued its own warnings of retaliation if the US were to proceed with its threats.
Iranian officials have clarified that while the Strait of Hormuz is open, they have imposed restrictions on vessels associated with their adversaries. Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stressed that the strait remains accessible, attributing any hesitation in ship movements to concerns raised by insurers due to the conflict initiated by the US.
Araghchi emphasized the significance of both Freedom of Navigation and Freedom of Trade, urging mutual respect for these principles.
