“ISIS-inspired terrorists foiled in UK Jewish attack plan”

Date:

In a tense encounter with armed police, an individual inspired by the Islamic State and scheming to harm Jewish individuals made an attempt to escape. Walid Saadaoui, 38, was apprehended in a police operation just as he was about to receive a cache of weapons, including assault rifles and a semi-automatic pistol. When officers approached him, Saadaoui, clad in a white t-shirt and jeans, tried to flee but was swiftly apprehended at the Last Drop hotel in Bolton.

Saadaoui, along with his accomplice Amar Hussein, was convicted of planning a terrorist attack on the Jewish community in Greater Manchester. The duo, sentenced to life in prison, faced charges of preparing acts of terrorism over a five-month period. Additionally, Walid’s brother, Bilel Saadaoui, was found guilty of withholding information about terrorist activities.

Authorities believe that if not for the intervention, the planned attack would have been one of the deadliest in the UK. The defendants were deceived by an undercover operative, leading them to believe they were acquiring a cache of illegal firearms. Surveillance images released by the police depicted the men scouting at the Port of Dover in anticipation of the supposed weapons delivery.

After the sentencing, Assistant Chief Constable Rob Potts of Greater Manchester Police condemned the defendants’ hateful intentions towards the Jewish community. The presiding judge, Mr. Justice Mark Wall KC, emphasized the severity of the planned attack and the defendants’ affiliation with ISIS. Walid Saadaoui received a life sentence with a minimum term of 37 years, while Amar Hussein was given life imprisonment with a minimum of 26 years. Bilel Saadaoui was sentenced to six years and 165 days for failing to disclose terrorism-related information.

Prosecutors highlighted the defendants’ willingness to cause significant harm, emphasizing the potential scale of the planned attack. The thwarted plot, which could have resulted in one of the deadliest firearm-related incidents in the UK’s history, underscored the serious threat posed by the individuals involved.
