US President Donald Trump has retracted his threat to attack Iran’s energy facilities if it did not open the Strait of Hormuz by midnight on Monday. Trump announced on social media that productive talks had taken place with Iran for a comprehensive solution to the conflicts, leading him to delay any military strikes on Iranian facilities for five days. Iran’s denial of negotiations was reaffirmed by Tehran’s parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, who labeled Trump’s claims as “fake news” intended to manipulate markets. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also expressed skepticism about a swift resolution to the conflict.
The UK’s HMS Dragon destroyer, en route to safeguard British military bases in Cyprus, departed after an Iranian drone attack on the RAF Akrotiri air base. The death toll in the region has surpassed 1,500 in Iran, over 1,000 in Lebanon, 15 in Israel, and 13 US military personnel.
Civilian casualties continue to rise in the region, with millions displaced in Lebanon and Iran. Oil prices have surged to over $100 per barrel, while US gasoline prices have spiked to nearly $4 per gallon.
