A tragic incident unfolded as a man lost his life after driving into floodwaters while being pursued by law enforcement. The discovery of his body took place near Egginton village in South Derbyshire after an extensive search carried out by Derbyshire Police and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The police reported that a vehicle towing a caravan, suspected to be stolen from Oakerthorpe, was being chased by officers in the early hours of Saturday. The occupants of the vehicle allegedly collided with police cars before coming to a stop close to Egginton, where they abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
Following the incident, one individual was swiftly apprehended, while the other fled into the flooded Egginton Brook near the junction of Main Street and Ash Grove Lane, according to the authorities. Despite receiving medical attention from ambulance crews at the scene, the man was later pronounced dead at Royal Derby Hospital. Subsequently, Derbyshire Police has voluntarily reported the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct for further review. In a related development, Adrian Osiecki, aged 34 and residing in Harnall Lane West, Coventry, faces multiple charges including caravan theft, damaging police vehicles, dangerous driving, driving without insurance, and driving while disqualified.
