In a shocking incident captured on camera, a bold thief was seen stealing a bird from a shop owner’s cage and secreting it away in a case of budgie smuggling. The shop owner, John Fox of Prescot Tyres in Warrington, shared the video on his Instagram account after a man claiming the bird needed company took it. Fox mentioned that the bird was part of their efforts to create a family-friendly environment at the shop and was stunned to witness the theft on CCTV.
The footage, described as “scary” by John, shows an unidentified man spending over 20 minutes in the shop before swiftly grabbing the bird and concealing it in his jacket pocket. The video, shared on the shop’s social media, depicts the thief nervously approaching the bird’s cage, causing distress to the pet before making off with it.
Despite reassurances from John that the bird was well cared for, the man returned to the shop, waited for an opportune moment, and then swiftly took the bird. The thief, appearing fixated on the bird, was captured on CCTV “licking his lips” and seemed oblivious to being filmed. John expressed anger and concern over the incident, highlighting the man’s bizarre behavior.
Merseyside Police has been contacted for a statement regarding the incident.
