At least 60 individuals sustained injuries following a ‘structural collapse’ incident at a soccer stadium in Peru. Hospitals are on heightened alert following the occurrence at the Alejandro Villanueva Stadium.
The Estadio Alejandro Villanueva, also known as Matute, is a soccer stadium situated in the Matute neighborhood of the La Victoria district in Lima, Peru. Club Alianza Lima utilizes the stadium as their home ground.
The injured individuals are currently undergoing evaluation by medical personnel on the scene, according to the authorities.
In a recent statement, the Ministry of Health for Peru stated that in response to the structural collapse at the Alejandro Villanueva Stadium, eight units were dispatched via the Mobile Emergency Medical Service (SAMU) to provide prehospital care to the affected individuals. The General Volunteer Fire Department of Peru is coordinating efforts.
The Ministry reported that 60 individuals have been identified as injured and are receiving evaluation and treatment, with three of them transferred to the National Hospital Arzobispo Loayza. Moreover, an alert has been issued at the National Hospital Dos de Mayo and other medical facilities in anticipation of additional injured persons. The Health Emergency Operations Center (COES Salud) is actively monitoring the situation and coordinating the health response.
Sources indicate that the incident occurred during a gathering of Alianza Lima supporters before a match against Universitario.
