A police officer was viciously attacked by a father and son duo while trying to intervene in an assault on another man. PC Ryan Davis sustained severe injuries when Richard Quinn, 49, and his 20-year-old son Alex repeatedly kicked and stomped on him. The incident, captured on CCTV, occurred in Hereford on March 29, 2024.
PC Davis, who was off duty, had been patrolling the area to prevent assaults on women and girls. He courageously stepped in to stop the Quinns from assaulting a man on Union Street. However, the attackers then turned their aggression towards PC Davis, assaulting him by repeatedly stomping on him and strangling him on the ground.
As a result of the attack, PC Davis suffered a dislocated and broken ankle, a fractured lower leg, facial lacerations, including eye damage, and multiple fractures. Richard Quinn’s wife, Carolynn, also joined in the assault on PC Davis’s colleagues and was convicted of two counts of assaulting an emergency worker.
Richard Quinn was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm to PC Davis and another assault, resulting in a sentence of four years and three months. Alex Quinn, residing at the same address, received a three-year and ten-month sentence in a young offenders’ institute for the same offenses. Following the court proceedings, PC Davis shared the ongoing struggles he faces due to the traumatic incident.
PC Davis expressed his gratitude for the support he has received from West Mercia Police and the Federation throughout his recovery. He emphasized the lasting impact of the attack on his physical and mental well-being, stating that the ordeal has changed him profoundly and left him with persistent PTSD symptoms and fear of going out.
Despite the challenges he continues to endure, PC Davis remains grateful for the assistance and solidarity he has received, highlighting the importance of acknowledging and addressing the repercussions of such violent acts on individuals in their line of duty.
