The parents of a seven-year-old British girl who was swept out to sea in Morocco provided an emotional update on the ongoing search efforts. Inaayah Makda disappeared on January 28 after a wave dragged her into the Atlantic while she was watching the sunset near Casablanca. Her parents, Zubair and Tasneem Makda, recounted the harrowing experience of being pulled under the water along with their daughter and losing sight of her as they struggled to stay afloat. Despite extensive search operations involving charitable organizations, local volunteers, and specialized diving teams, Inaayah has not been located nearly a month later. The parents acknowledged the possibility of having to eventually halt the search.
In a recent statement on social media, Inaayah’s parents expressed the immense pain they are going through and the ongoing efforts to find her. They emphasized the importance of faith during this challenging time and thanked everyone for their prayers and support. The Moroccan authorities are conducting shoreline searches, underwater dive missions, and naval patrols, while independent search teams are also being mobilized. A fundraising campaign on GoFundMe has raised over £61,000 to finance the search operations, but further donations have been paused due to logistical challenges and inclement weather conditions.
The family remains hopeful and committed to exploring all avenues in the search for Inaayah, but they are aware that a difficult decision might have to be made if she is not found. They expressed gratitude for the community’s assistance and assured that any remaining funds from the search efforts would be allocated to charitable causes in Inaayah’s honor. The family requested continued prayers and support as they navigate this heartbreaking situation.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed their support for the British family and stated that they are in contact with local authorities regarding the missing girl.
