Police have initiated a significant operation in response to disturbing social media content encouraging a ‘school war’ where points are awarded for causing stab injuries to other children.
The social media trend known as ‘Red vs Blue’ has identified 58 schools in London through AI-generated posters that outline dates, locations, rules, approved weapons, and a scoring system for participants. This trend divides school pupils into color-coded teams like red vs blue or black vs green, or based on borough affiliations.
Concerns are rising over gangs using direct social media tactics to recruit youths into violent activities.
One poster directly urges schoolchildren to engage in violence. Another poster details a points system for the fights, with the highest score reserved for “juggin,” a term for stabbing. Some events are specifically targeted at children aged 13 to 16.
Police are actively collaborating with schools in London, stationing officers outside the named schools to swiftly address any instances of disorder.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police stated, “We are monitoring circulating social media posts and maintaining communication with schools across various London boroughs to provide support and assurance. Officers will be present around the mentioned schools to address any reports of violence or disorder.”
Commander Neerav Patel in Ealing reiterated the police’s close coordination with schools to ensure safety and deter violence. Officers will uphold a visible presence around schools and respond decisively to any violence or disorder reports.
Efforts are ongoing to monitor online platforms, with several social media accounts disabled due to threats or incitements to violence.
