A man who shook a five-month-old baby to death tearfully spoke to emergency services while a neighbor attempted to save the infant. Thomas Morgan, 29, received a life sentence with a minimum of 19 years for murdering Jensen-Lee Dougal in Clydach, Swansea Valley.
During the incident, Morgan falsely claimed to the operator that the baby was choking on vomit and that he had tried to help. However, evidence revealed severe injuries on Jensen-Lee consistent with high impact trauma, leading to Morgan’s conviction for murder at Swansea Crown Court.
The tragic event occurred when Morgan was alone with Jensen-Lee while the baby’s mother, Jordan Dougal, was at work. Prior to the incident, Morgan engaged in a heated text argument with his ex-partner and later bought cannabis and alcohol with Jensen-Lee in the car before returning home.
Subsequently, Jensen-Lee suffered life-threatening injuries including brain bleeding, rib fractures, and joint damage from being violently shaken. Despite Morgan’s claim that he tried to revive the baby, prosecutors argued that he had shaken Jensen-Lee in a fit of rage following the argument with his ex-partner.
After neighbors called for help, paramedics managed to revive Jensen-Lee temporarily, but he succumbed to his injuries the next day after his mother made the heartbreaking decision to end life support. Following the sentencing, Jensen-Lee’s mother expressed her enduring grief and loss, emphasizing the profound impact of losing her son.
Detective Chief Inspector Lianne Rees highlighted the justice served with Morgan’s sentencing but acknowledged the ongoing pain for Jensen-Lee’s family. She praised the efforts of all involved in trying to save the baby’s life and thanked the investigative team for their dedication during the challenging case.
