“Helicopter Crash in Borneo Claims Eight Lives”

Date:

Eight individuals tragically lost their lives in a helicopter accident that occurred shortly after the aircraft took off and disappeared into a dense jungle area. The incident took place during a journey over vast palm oil plantations in Borneo. The helicopter, an Airbus H130 belonging to PT Matthew Air Nusantara, lost contact just five minutes after departing from Melawi district in West Kalimantan province en route to Kubu Raya district.

Following the crash, search teams located the wreckage in the forests of Sekadau district and retrieved the bodies of the two crew members and six passengers. All the individuals on board, including a Malaysian national, were men. Their bodies were transported to the provincial capital of Pontianak for further procedures.

Lukman F. Laisa, the civil aviation director general, confirmed the unfortunate news, stating that the search and rescue team successfully located the crash site and that all passengers and crew members had perished in the accident. Indonesia, with a population of around 270 million, has been dealing with a series of transportation accidents, including plane crashes and ferry sinkings.

In a separate incident earlier in January, a plane crash on Sulawesi island claimed the lives of 11 people. The wreckage, along with the body of a man, was found in a ravine close to Mount Bulusaraung. The aircraft, an ATR 42-500 operated by Indonesia Air Transport, was en route from Yogyakarta to Makassar when it crashed due to adverse weather conditions and terrain challenges.

The search and recovery efforts were hampered by strong winds, heavy fog, and difficult terrain, according to Maj. Gen. Bangun Nawoko, the military commander of South Sulawesi.
