“Tenerife and Gran Canaria Shaken by 4.1 Magnitude Quake”

Date:

An earthquake has impacted two popular vacation destinations, accompanied by an update on volcanic activity. Residents in Tenerife and Gran Canaria are advised not to panic following the 4.1 magnitude quake. Scientists clarify that this event is unrelated to the ongoing seismic activity near Mount Teide, reassuring that an eruption is not imminent.

The earthquake, occurring at 12.26pm today at a depth of 10km, caused rooms to vibrate and furniture to shake. The National Geographic Institute confirmed the quake’s magnitude at 4.1 in the vicinity of the Enmedio Volcano, situated between Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

Witnessed by many in various areas of the two islands, the seismic movement prompted numerous reports due to its intensity and depth. Although no significant damage has been reported, scientists remain vigilant about the seismic activity near Mount Teide and plan to convene for further discussions.

Officials stress that the current seismicity does not indicate an imminent eruption, urging municipalities in Tenerife to update emergency plans as a precaution. The government of Tenerife emphasizes confidence in their robust monitoring system, reassuring residents that there is no immediate cause for alarm.
