When holiday companies collapse, travelers are left without their planned trips and lose their money unless the operator had ATOL protection. In January, Regen Central Ltd, originally based in Hertfordshire before moving to London, went into liquidation, canceling all holidays and losing its ATOL protection. The Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that Regen Central had no outstanding ATOL-protected bookings.
On January 23, Gold Crest Holidays, a family-run coach operator from West Yorkshire with 30 years of operation, announced its closure due to escalating costs. The company mentioned the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and changes in partner arrangements as contributing factors to its shutdown. All upcoming trips were canceled, and ABTA would handle refunds for affected customers.
Asiara UK, previously known as Haivenu Tours, ceased trading on January 21, offering holiday packages to Asian destinations like China, Thailand, and India. Simply Florida, headquartered in Glasgow, Scotland, specialized in trips to various destinations and officially stopped trading on January 20. Both companies have undergone dissolution procedures following their closures.
Travelers with bookings affected by these closures may be eligible for refunds depending on the companies’ protection status. It is essential for holidaymakers to be aware of ATOL protection and other safeguards when planning their trips to mitigate potential risks associated with travel company insolvencies.
