Two adolescents have been apprehended following an alleged targeted assault involving weapons at an Asda parking lot. The incident occurred at The Jewel Asda parking area in Edinburgh at approximately 4:20 pm on Wednesday, February 25, and seemed to involve two distinct factions. Authorities have confirmed that two young males, aged 17 and 18, have been taken into custody.
No injuries have been reported, and law enforcement is actively searching for other individuals linked to the altercation. The detained pair face charges related to endangering life through assault, breaching the peace, and offenses involving weapons.
Police are categorizing the occurrence as a targeted assault and are actively investigating to locate other participants. Chief Inspector Alison Macdonald emphasized the continuation of targeted patrols to prevent and uncover criminal activities. She emphasized, “This form of violence is intolerable and will not be condoned. Police officers are dedicated to combatting crime and antisocial conduct within the community. Targeted patrols will persist to discourage and identify any criminal behavior. If anyone has concerns, they should reach out to local law enforcement or contact us via 101.”
A local resident, aged 49, recounted to Edinburgh Live: “Suddenly, there was a sudden eruption. I’m unsure if it was rival groups or not, but such incidents are unexpected in broad daylight at the nearby supermarket.”
A representative from Police Scotland stated, “Two males, aged 17 and 18, have been arrested and charged in connection with assault endangering life, breaching the peace, and weapons-related offenses following a disturbance in The Jewel neighborhood of Edinburgh. At 4:20 pm on Wednesday, February 25, officers responded to a report of males wielding weapons causing a disturbance. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.”
