A major airline has suddenly canceled all its summer flights, causing passengers to seek refunds while uncertainties loom over their travel arrangements. Beond Airlines has announced the suspension of all services between the Maldives and Europe, as well as routes via Dubai, with no flights expected to resume until at least October.
Initially citing a seasonal break for its European routes, the airline now reveals a broader disruption affecting its entire network, including connections in the Middle East. Bookings are no longer available across all routes, indicating a complete shutdown rather than a temporary adjustment.
Affected passengers will receive communication within 72 hours, offering them choices such as rebooking for winter travel without fees, credit valid for up to a year, or full refunds. Notably, the airline has silently retracted a previous commitment on its website that guaranteed business-class rebooking on alternate airlines in case of disruptions, raising concerns among travelers.
Launched in 2023 as an exclusive all-business-class carrier, Beond Airlines specialized in luxury travel between Europe and the Maldives. However, the airline is facing mounting financial and operational challenges, exacerbated by soaring fuel prices that make operating long-haul routes increasingly costly, particularly for smaller airlines with limited resources. With just two aircraft in its fleet – an Airbus A319 and Airbus A321 – the airline is under pressure.
Online indications of change include the removal of sections from its website, such as customer assurance details and previous announcements about expansion plans. Despite previous ambitious growth strategies and proposed new destinations, many of these initiatives failed to materialize, casting doubt on the airline’s ability to resume operations after its summer hiatus.
