US Intelligence Concerned Over Pakistan’s Mediator Ties

Date:

US intelligence has expressed concerns regarding Pakistan’s role in peace negotiations due to revelations about the country’s top mediator having stronger ties with Iran than previously known.

Pakistan’s military leader, Asim Munir, who was praised by US President Donald Trump, has connections with two high-ranking Iranian military officials killed by the US. These individuals are Major General Qasem Solemeini, the former leader of the secretive Quds Force, and ex-military chief Hossein Salami.

It has been uncovered that Munir had developed intimate relationships with both targeted figures, posing a potential threat to the United States. There are suspicions that the delay in peace talks is a tactic by Iran to allow the US to bolster its military presence in the region further.

Amid escalating tensions in the Gulf, three vessels were attacked with Tehran’s support, and two ships were seized and are being escorted back to Iran.

An insider informed the Daily Mirror that Pakistan’s involvement as a mediator requires ensuring impartiality among all parties. The ties to individuals in the IRGC and its Quds force could introduce bias, potentially skewing the peace negotiations in favor of Iran.

The ongoing complications in the peace talks have deteriorated trust between the involved parties. Meanwhile, Israel is monitoring the situation, waiting for an opportunity to degrade Iran’s military capabilities should hostilities resume.

Iran perceives the US’s actions as a strategy to rearm and strengthen its forces with additional firepower during the peace talks. The peace discussions in Pakistan have been halted, and US Vice President JD Vance has postponed his visit to Islamabad.

The extension of the ceasefire deadline beyond today was initiated by Trump, following requests from Munir and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to hold off on any attacks against Iran until a peace proposal is presented.

Tensions are escalating in the Gulf region, marked by multiple ship attacks by Iran’s IRGC and the continued blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. The assaults caused significant damage to ships like the Epaminondas and the MSC Francesca, leading to concerns about potential involvement of the Houthis in Yemen at Iran’s behest.

The conflict with Iran has persisted for about seven weeks, triggering a new crisis in Lebanon, which is currently under a fragile ceasefire. The ceasefire, starting on April 16 and extendable by mutual agreement, was reluctantly accepted by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at Trump’s urging.

The Israel Defense Force has been actively targeting Hezbollah commanders and infrastructure in recent weeks, aiming to mitigate future attacks by Hezbollah.
