A young boy is facing accusations of causing the death of a tourist by throwing a statue, with claims that he had a history of tossing objects from balconies, although his parents refute ownership of the object in question.
Italian visitor Chiara Jaconis, aged 30, was tragically struck on the head by a 4.4lbs statue while strolling in Naples with her partner in 2024. Despite immediate medical attention, she succumbed to severe brain injuries two days later.
Due to the child’s age, the 13-year-old’s parents are being charged with manslaughter in accordance with Italian legislation that does not hold minors criminally responsible. Prosecutors allege the parents failed to supervise their son adequately.
The prosecution is pushing for negligent manslaughter charges against the parents, citing previous incidents where the boy purportedly threw various items off the balcony, including clothes, a remote control, and a tablet.
