“Mother-of-Three Dies of Undiagnosed Heart Condition Post-Childbirth”

Date:

A mother-of-three tragically passed away due to an undiagnosed heart condition just five weeks after giving birth, sparking a warning from her family. Cathy MacGuinness, 40, suffered a cardiac arrest at home and was rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney on Easter Sunday. Despite spending nearly three weeks in a medically induced coma, she eventually succumbed on a Saturday evening.

Survived by her partner, Sebastian, and their three children – Zoe, Rosie, and newborn Goldie – Ms. MacGuinness had dilated cardiomyopathy, a condition causing heart enlargement and impaired blood pumping. Her family believes timely diagnosis and treatment could have saved her life.

The family emphasizes the importance of vigilance regarding health, especially for busy mothers, to not overlook any minor symptoms. Symptoms of dilated cardiomyopathy include fatigue, shortness of breath, swelling, palpitations, dizziness, and reduced exercise capacity.

Described as a devoted mother and a beacon of positivity, Cathy’s untimely demise has left a void in her family’s life. Her brother-in-law has shown remarkable strength in caring for the children. Friends remember her as someone who made everyone feel truly seen and valued.

A fundraising campaign has been initiated to support Cathy’s children, as she did not have life insurance. The initiative has garnered significant support, reflecting the impact she had on those around her.
