Two women shared their harrowing ordeal of being viciously attacked by a disgraced celebrity dentist who was fatally shot by the police while under the influence of drugs.
Chloe Paul and Christine Campeau were assaulted by Dr. Steven Lin, 41, an accomplished Australian dentist known for his TED talks, ownership of two dental practices, and a popular health podcast presence. The violent incident took place at the St Neot Ave building in Potts Point, Sydney, Australia, around 10:50 pm on a Tuesday morning when Lin, armed with a knife, entered their apartment complex.
After stabbing Ms. Campeau in the face in the laundry room, leaving her injured, Lin proceeded to force his way into Ms. Paul’s unit. There, he demanded money from the mother of three, physically assaulted her, and choked her.
Ms. Campeau recounted feeling like she was facing death as Lin continuously attacked her, delivering multiple blows before she thought she might not survive. Ms. Paul, a celebrity photographer and trained boxer, managed to defend herself by recalling advice from her boxing coach to target vulnerable areas, enabling her to fend off the attacker.
Police intervention became necessary as Lin resisted arrest, with officers initially attempting to subdue him with a Taser, which proved ineffective. Eventually, a police officer was compelled to shoot Lin when he aggressively moved towards them.
Following the shooting, Ms. Paul expressed a sense of relief as a calmness settled over the chaotic situation. Both women were swiftly taken to the hospital, where they underwent surgery for severe facial injuries, including a broken nose. In a joint Instagram post a week after the traumatic event, they bravely shared their experience, asserting that Lin had unknowingly targeted two resilient women.
Ms. Campeau emphasized that the choice of victims was intentional, believing they were selected by Lin to prevent him from harming other women in the future. The demise of Dr. Lin at the hands of law enforcement marked a tragic end to his once-prominent career, characterized by legal troubles and substance abuse issues.
