Putin’s Propagandist Threatens UK: Defend Piracy, Face Missiles

Date:

Vladimir Putin’s chief propagandist has issued threats against Royal Navy warships following the UK’s decision to intercept and detain Russian shadow fleet vessels.

Moscow has labeled these actions as “piracy,” with Russian state TV echoing Kremlin directives and hinting at potential missile strikes.

The UK’s Labour Party leader, Sir Keir Starmer, has authorized special forces to interdict and hold Russian shadow fleet ships, often utilized for smuggling oil in violation of sanctions through the English Channel.

In response, Putin’s spokesperson, Vladimir Solovyov, asserted that Russia will defend against piracy and may resort to sinking British Royal Navy ships involved in such activities using aircraft and missiles.

Solovyov, recognized by Putin for his role in the propaganda apparatus, emphasized that Russia will not tolerate British ships seizing commercial vessels and will counter piracy effectively.

Mockingly, he pointed out the limited presence of the Royal Navy globally, citing a destroyer near Cyprus and one of two aircraft carriers.

He provocatively speculated on the consequences for the UK after the potential sinking of two British ships, implying a weakened naval force. Solovyov emphasized that Russia’s actions aim to challenge British dominance at sea.

Following Starmer’s warning, some ships have altered their routes to avoid the English Channel, opting for Irish-controlled waters. Concurrently, Ukraine has intensified its attacks on Russia, causing concern among Putin’s supporters.

Recent drone strikes targeted the Azov Sea port of Taganrog, disrupting operations at the Beriev Aircraft Company, which supports Russia’s airborne early-warning aircraft.

The Rostov region declared a state of emergency after drone strikes resulted in casualties and damage to infrastructure. Evacuations were underway in the affected areas.

In separate incidents, industrial sites in Russian-occupied territories and oil export facilities in Ust-Luga sustained significant damage, impacting Russia’s petroleum revenue and military capabilities.

The ongoing attacks have led to widespread destruction and casualties, posing a significant challenge to Russia’s economic and military stability.
