A well-known British social media influencer is facing potential imprisonment for attempting to smuggle more than £150,000 worth of cannabis through a UK airport. Ellie Crampsie, a prominent figure in Glasgow’s nightlife and events scene, was caught with over 17 kilos of cannabis hidden in her luggage upon returning from a holiday in Thailand last year.
During her appearance at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on March 26, Crampsie admitted to being involved in supplying cannabis to others. The 23-year-old influencer, known for her active presence in promoting various brands and operating her beauty business, Brows by Ellie, was apprehended by Border Force officers upon her arrival on an Air France flight from Thailand via Paris.
Prosecutor Emma Laing informed the court that Crampsie was found with multiple vacuum-sealed packages containing 17.7kg of cannabis, valued between £115,000 and £151,000. Despite her clean prior criminal record and the support of her parents, Crampsie’s bail conditions were upheld while awaiting a social work report and a restriction of liberty assessment.
Sheriff Graeme Watson adjourned the sentencing to allow for the necessary reports and emphasized that all sentencing options remain open. Crampsie pleaded guilty to involvement in the supply of cannabis at Edinburgh Airport on April 16 last year.
