Russia is facing significant losses of over 1,000 troops daily due to Ukrainian fighters using advanced AI drones in a determined counterattack, according to battle analysis reports. Ukraine has bolstered its ability to strike at far distances by employing domestically developed drone and missile technology against Russia’s prolonged invasion. Attacks on Russian oil facilities, crucial for funding the invasion, have become frequent occurrences.
The Ukrainian military is increasingly leveraging AI-powered drones to target Russian military assets deep within enemy territory. Recent strikes have focused on disrupting supply lines connecting Russia to southern Ukraine, with experts highlighting the autonomous tracking capabilities of Ukraine’s AI-enhanced Hornet drones.
In April, Russian casualties on the battlefield, including fatalities and injuries, reached 32,980, averaging 1,099 per day. By May 2026, Russia had sustained a total of 28,200 losses at a daily rate of 1,044. Britain’s Defense Secretary John Healey praised the resilience and courage of Ukrainian forces, noting their advances on multiple fronts against Russian aggression.
Highlighting the ongoing conflict, Healey emphasized Russia’s substantial troop losses without significant gains, refuting Putin’s claims of momentum. He reaffirmed the UK’s unwavering support for Ukraine through military aid and coalition efforts for long-term peace and stability.
The escalating tensions follow accusations by Russia against Ukraine for a drone attack on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant under Russian control. Ukraine dismissed the accusation as an attempt to deflect from Russia’s own actions.
