“Man Arrested After Car Hits Pedestrians in Derby”

Police in a UK city center have provided an update following an incident that led to seven individuals being hospitalized. The event occurred on Saturday, March 28, around 9:30 pm on Friar Gate in Derby, where multiple pedestrians were hit by a car. Despite the bustling nature of Friar Gate at the time, the injuries sustained by the seven victims were serious but not life-threatening.

A 36-year-old man residing in Derby, originally from India, was apprehended on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently being held in police custody for interrogation. The involvement of a black Suzuki Swift in the incident was highlighted by Derbyshire Live reports.

In a statement this morning, a spokesperson from Derbyshire Police mentioned that inquiries are ongoing following an extension in the detainment period of the arrested individual. The police called for assistance from the public, particularly those present on Friar Gate during the incident. They specifically requested footage from witnesses and drivers who might have captured the Suzuki Swift before or after the occurrence. The suspect was believed to have fled along Friar Gate towards various locations before being intercepted by authorities on Station Approach near Pride Park.
