“Woman orchestrates brutal assault on ex-partner”

Date:

A woman contacted her former partner for assistance, but then led him into a vicious attack. Summer Marl-Brock, along with her cousin David Brock and Aaron Evans, orchestrated a brutal assault on Benjamin Edwards. The attack involved physical violence, including punching, kicking, and biting Mr. Edwards. Marl-Brock filmed the attack, laughing as it unfolded, and only called for it to stop when it spiraled out of control, according to Judge Simon Mills.

The court heard that Marl-Brock and Mr. Edwards had a tumultuous relationship marked by allegations of violence from both sides, leading to a bitter end. The catalyst for the assault was Marl-Brock spreading rumors about Mr. Edwards. Messages were exchanged, with Brock threatening Mr. Edwards over his treatment of Marl-Brock.

The incident occurred when Marl-Brock, claiming to be alone after a night of drinking, lured Mr. Edwards to meet her halfway in Ewloe, Wales. Unbeknownst to him, Brock and Evans were lying in wait with malicious intent. Despite Mr. Edwards’ attempts to escape, he was subjected to severe injuries during the assault, including haemorrhaging, bruising, fractures, bite marks, and other wounds.

Brock, Evans, and Marl-Brock admitted to the assault and were sentenced accordingly. Mr. Edwards, in a victim statement, detailed the lasting trauma he experienced as a result of the attack. The court noted the extensive criminal histories of Brock and Evans, highlighting the escalation of violence in this case.

During sentencing, Judge Mills condemned the trio for their roles in the heinous assault, stating that they had meticulously planned the revenge attack. He emphasized the particularly chilling aspect of the biting during the assault. Evans received a prison term of six years and three months, Brock was sentenced to seven years and two months with an extended license period, and Marl-Brock received a 54-month sentence with a prison term of two-thirds before release on license. Additionally, they were all issued a 15-year restraining order prohibiting contact with the victim and were required to pay a statutory surcharge.
