Travelodge is currently recruiting a team of specialists to implement significant changes and enhance the organizational culture, following recent incidents of sexual abuse within the company.
The budget hotel chain faced criticism after a female guest was sexually assaulted by an individual who gained access to her room using a key. Subsequently, more women have come forward with similar disturbing experiences, including one woman who reported inappropriate behavior by a man outside her room.
In an effort to safeguard its reputation, Travelodge has announced the hiring of four Change Delivery Coaches. These positions aim to deeply integrate change within the company’s ethos, foster positive behaviors, and address underlying issues when plans go awry.
The responsibilities of these new roles include early identification of implementation gaps and risks, as well as influencing individuals and transforming the company’s culture. Additionally, a Senior Change Programme Manager will oversee the strategic design of complex changes to ensure a strong foundation for every initiative.
The job description emphasizes the need for individuals who can promptly identify behavioral gaps, utilize analytical insights, collaborate effectively, and drive results across various locations.
Travelodge faced public scrutiny following an incident where Kyran Smith sexually assaulted a woman at one of their locations. Despite the CEO, Jo Boydell, claiming ignorance of the incident until Smith’s court appearance, it was later revealed that the victim had contacted the company directly. Boydell has since issued an apology and highlighted changes in the door key policy.
Subsequent reports of alarming incidents at Travelodge include a guest’s account of being harassed by a naked man outside her room and another guest’s experience of a staff member entering her room unannounced. These incidents have raised concerns about guest security at Travelodge properties.
Travelodge responded to inquiries by stating that the new job postings were approved earlier in the year. Boydell expressed regret over the mishandling of past incidents and emphasized the company’s commitment to enhancing guest safety and security. Additionally, Travelodge is collaborating with government officials and industry bodies to address security concerns and strengthen hotel protocols.
