A mother from the UK is currently stuck in India following a serious motorcycle accident that resulted in severe injuries. Roxanne Bolton, aged 39 and a mother of five from Cornwall, was thrown from the back of a motorcycle during a collision, leaving her with excruciating wounds.
According to reports, Roxanne will require multiple medical procedures before she can safely return home to the UK. The incident occurred when she and a friend were riding a motorcycle and collided with another vehicle while turning a corner in India.
After being rushed to the hospital on March 29 with severe injuries, Roxanne underwent initial surgery at a government hospital in Pondicherry before being transferred to the Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). Her daughters, who received the distressing news of the accident, are now striving to raise funds for their mother’s medical expenses as she did not have insurance at the time of the incident.
With the support of the hostel owner where Roxanne was staying, initial treatment costs were covered. However, the family has launched a GoFundMe page to gather financial assistance for her further medical needs. Roxanne has already undergone one surgery, but additional procedures are anticipated, with expenses estimated to be significant.
Aleisha, Roxanne’s daughter, mentioned that they have raised around £2,500 so far, but the total cost of treatment is expected to be approximately £4,000. Roxanne suffered a fractured hip and a completely broken femur, requiring an external fixator to stabilize her condition. She will have to undergo several more surgeries in the coming days.
Despite being in extreme pain, Roxanne is reportedly managing well emotionally. She is currently under the care of a private nurse in the hospital who helps with translation and understanding of her treatment. The local community in Auroville, where she was staying, has rallied together to support her during this challenging time.
Aleisha expressed her gratitude for the community’s assistance, mentioning that they have been caring for her mother and ensuring she is never alone. Although Roxanne is struggling emotionally due to uncertainty about returning home and communication barriers, she is displaying remarkable strength and resilience throughout her recovery process.
