A pregnant pet sitter, Paige Williams, 26, from Kenilworth Road in Knowle, Solihull, along with her partner Bradley Regan Archer, 27, have been sentenced following the exposure of disturbing videos showing them mistreating dogs under their care. The pair was entrusted with looking after three dogs, two cats, and two birds for a fee of £1,400 by a family in July and August 2024. However, instead of providing proper care, they subjected the dogs to abuse, as revealed in footage captured by kitchen and garden cameras while the family was away on vacation.
The videos, comprising 51 pieces of evidence, were submitted to the RSPCA for investigation. The abuse mainly targeted two German Shorthaired Pointers, Ayrton and Frieda, aged 13 months and three years respectively. The mistreatment involved yelling, cursing, dragging the dogs by their collars, lifting them off the ground, and forcefully pushing them around the house.
Operating under the name Fur & Filly PetCare Services, Williams failed to meet the needs of the dogs, prompting the dog owners to withhold payment upon discovering the cruelty. In a video, Williams expressed her refusal to care for the dogs again, citing her own animals’ suffering.
Following a guilty plea by Williams for animal welfare negligence, the couple appeared in Coventry Magistrates’ Court. Williams received a 12-month community order with 140 hours of unpaid work and was ordered to pay £350 in costs, plus a £114 victim surcharge. Archer, who initially pleaded not guilty, later changed his plea and was sentenced to a 12-month community order with 40 hours of unpaid work, along with £750 in costs and a £114 victim surcharge. The court also imposed a seven-year ban on them from keeping any animals.
RSPCA Inspector Ben Jones, who led the investigation, emphasized the breach of trust by Williams and Archer, noting the detrimental impact on the dogs’ well-being. A vet’s assessment revealed signs of anxiety and stress in the dogs due to the abusive treatment. Williams, in her defense, attributed her actions to coping difficulties during pregnancy.
The family, who had a positive history with Williams, were shocked by the abuse captured on camera upon their return. The RSPCA confirmed that the dogs, initially subdued and distressed, were now in a better state after being reunited with their family.
