“Oil Prices Surge Amid Strait of Hormuz Crisis”

Date:

The oil market is approaching a critical juncture that could lead to a substantial rise in prices within the next four weeks, according to recent warnings. President Donald Trump has cautioned oil industry leaders about the potential prolonged blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns about global stockpiles falling below essential levels.

Experts are apprehensive that supplies of crude oil, gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel may reach critically low levels by the end of the month, triggering a surge in prices. Frederic Lasserre, the head of research at Gunvor, a major oil trading company, emphasized the urgency of the situation, highlighting the risk of not just higher prices at the pump but also a broader economic downturn.

Amrita Sen, the founder of Energy Aspects consultancy, echoed these concerns, stating that if the conflict persisted until the end of June, all reserves would be depleted, leaving no room for price stability. Current oil prices have already reached $126 per barrel, with projections indicating a potential increase to $150-$200 if the crisis prolongs.

Meanwhile, ongoing airstrikes by Israel in southern Lebanon, despite a ceasefire with Hezbollah, have resulted in casualties and forced evacuations in the region. Both Israel and Hezbollah have continued their attacks despite the ceasefire, leading to escalating tensions and further violence in the area.

The Israeli military’s operations have targeted Hezbollah infrastructure and members, resulting in a series of strikes that have claimed lives and caused destruction in Lebanese villages. Despite the conflict, Lebanon and Israel engaged in direct talks for the first time in over three decades, signaling a potential shift in their long-standing state of war. A ceasefire declared in Washington has been extended, offering a temporary respite in the hostilities.

The situation remains fluid, with concerns growing over the impact of the conflict on global oil prices and regional stability.
