A man identified as Carl Ennis, aged 54, has tragically passed away following an assault at a chip shop in Stockbridge Village. The incident took place at The Village Chippy on Leach Croft on Friday, April 17, around 7:30 pm. Carl, affectionately known as “Scully,” suffered a severe head injury during the attack but managed to leave the premises with his food before being hospitalized.
The ambulance service alerted the authorities the following day after Carl was taken to the hospital. Merseyside Police confirmed his death on Tuesday and have elevated the investigation to a murder inquiry. A 25-year-old man from Stockbridge Village, arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent, is currently on conditional bail.
Carl, a father with connections in the Boode Croft and Woodfarm Hey areas of Stockbridge Village, was remembered by his loved ones for his kind and caring demeanor and his passion for wildlife. Tributes poured in on social media, with friends reminiscing about their fond memories with Carl.
Local residents described Carl as a familiar and friendly face in the community, always ready to greet passersby with a smile. Authorities are urging witnesses who were present at The Village Chippy during the incident to come forward with any information that could assist in the investigation.
The manager of the chip shop, Xiau Chen, recounted hearing a loud noise and discovering Carl with facial injuries. Despite the shock of the incident, the staff and a customer at the shop immediately attended to the victim, who was covered in blood. Chen expressed bewilderment at the sudden violence and emphasized the need for answers regarding the motive behind the attack.
