“New Drink Limit: 6 Per Day for British Tourists in Spain”

Date:

British holidaymakers traveling to popular destinations on package holidays will now have a restriction of up to six drinks per day as part of new regulations aimed at curbing disruptive behavior. This limitation has been implemented across various Balearic Islands in Spain, including Majorca, Magaluf, and Ibiza, in response to complaints from local residents about unruly conduct during peak holiday periods.

Under the Responsible Tourism guidelines, hotels are prohibited from serving more than six alcoholic beverages to guests on inclusive packages daily, with extra drinks available for purchase separately. Additionally, a fine of £2,600 will be enforced on individuals caught drinking alcohol in public spaces.

Simon Hood, the executive director of John Mason International, highlighted that Majorca and Ibiza introduced these rules following concerns raised by locals amid overtourism protests. While these regulations were initially established in 2024, recent amendments have been proposed, which many British tourists may not be aware of.

Hood cautioned holiday-goers to avoid carrying alcoholic drinks onto the streets or causing disturbances, as these actions could lead to penalties. All-inclusive packages and bar crawls are also impacted by these rules, with restrictions on drink consumption in party hotspots like Magaluf, Playa de Palma, and San Antonio.

Tourists opting for all-inclusive deals are advised to adhere to the maximum limit of six alcoholic drinks per day, to be consumed during designated meal times. Violations of these rules may result in additional charges imposed by hotels.

Despite the restrictions, Hood emphasized that tourists can still enjoy beverages within the designated limits, such as relaxing with a few drinks by the pool, but should remain mindful of their surroundings. The ultimate goal of these measures is to foster harmony between residents and visitors, ensuring a pleasant holiday experience for all parties involved.
