Authorities have identified a man who was fatally shot in London as they launch an investigation into the murder.
Keanu Taylor, aged 25, succumbed to his injuries after the shooting incident in Brixton, South London, during the early hours of Saturday.
According to a witness who spoke to the BBC, the shooting occurred when a vehicle approached from the opposite side of the road and discharged seven rounds. The incident took place while a crowd had gathered outside Southwyck House on Friday evening for a barbecue event attended by families.
Three other individuals, aged 21, 47, and 70, were also hospitalized following the shooting, with their conditions reported to be stable. The Metropolitan Police Service has initiated a murder inquiry, with no arrests made thus far.
In a statement, the police force declared: “Met detectives have commenced a murder investigation after a shooting incident in Brixton. Reports of multiple gunshots on Coldharbour Lane prompted a call to the police at 01:14hrs on Saturday, 2 May.”
“Within four minutes, officers, including specialized crime units, arrived at the scene and administered immediate medical assistance in collaboration with the London Ambulance Service.
“The 25-year-old victim, Keanu Taylor, was taken to the hospital but unfortunately passed away. His family is receiving support from dedicated officers during this challenging period.
“The other three individuals, aged 21, 47, and 70, were also hospitalized. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening or life-altering. While no arrests have been made at this stage, detectives are actively pursuing leads to identify the culprits.”
Detective Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo, leading the investigation, denounced the incident as a “horrific act of violence” and urged anyone with information or footage to come forward.
He stated: “As we swiftly work to apprehend those responsible, our thoughts are with Keanu’s loved ones during this incredibly challenging time. This deplorable act has had a profound impact on those involved and the local community. We want to reassure residents that we are diligently pursuing the individuals accountable.
“It is crucial that anyone who witnessed the incident, possesses information, or footage, steps forward. Even the smallest detail could be pivotal to our investigation. There will be heightened police presence in the area in the following days. If there are any concerns, please communicate with the officers.”
