“Neighborhood Safety Concerns Escalate Over Unwanted Caravan Presence”

Date:

An annoyed resident in Golborne, Wigan, raised concerns about a caravan that appeared behind his property and remained there without permission. Colin Taylor, a retired police officer, returned from vacation in September 2024 to discover the trailer parked nearby. The occupant, claiming to be going through a separation and homelessness, assured Colin of a short stay.

Despite Colin’s efforts to inform the council about the empty caravan, it continued to attract unwanted visitors, leading to safety concerns in the neighborhood. Suspicious activities, including late-night visits by strangers, prompted Colin to express fears for his family’s security and restrict outdoor activities.

Repeated complaints to Wigan Council and Greater Manchester Police have not resolved the issue. While the caravan has been vacant since May 2026, the council insists that the landowner, 81-year-old Beryl Crellin, foot the removal bill. Beryl, known as Carol in the area, refuses to pay, arguing that the responsibility lies with the council to address the situation appropriately.

Expressing frustration, Beryl emphasized her age and disinterest in the matter, distancing herself from any financial obligations for the caravan’s removal. Colin lamented the lack of feasible solutions, fearing legal repercussions if he takes matters into his own hands. The situation remains unresolved, with inquiries made to Wigan Council and GMP for their input.
