A fortunate Euromillions winner successfully safeguarded her massive jackpot from her deceitful spouse through a clever tactic, ensuring she remained insulated from his reckless lifestyle. Gillian Bayford, 52, parted ways with her husband Adrian 15 months post her £148 million lottery windfall in August 2012, a win that attracted demanding and greedy individuals around her. Following the split from her ex, whom she labeled a “gold digger,” Gillian remarried property developer Brian Deans, with whom she had a child in 2018.
Despite being a convicted fraudster, Deans squandered Gillian’s money on extravagant items during their relationship. However, she managed to shield most of her winnings from him due to a strategic legal maneuver. Deans reportedly spent significant sums on cars, watches, and luxury vacations, and also received substantial amounts from Gillian for financial ventures, leading to an estimated £5 million depletion of their shared funds before their divorce in April 2025.
Records from Companies House revealed that Deans’ property investment business, BGD Property Developments Ltd, obtained loans from Gillian for four properties between 2019 and 2021. These loans were registered as five charges, indicating debts totaling £448,845 owed to creditors, with Deans borrowing £141,926 from the company, further exacerbating his financial liabilities.
Notably, four of the charges on Deans’ financial records identified Gillian as the lender, illustrating his indebtedness to her. Despite the financial entanglements, Gillian retained £74 million from her initial jackpot and appeared content with her decisions, as a close source mentioned her relief at being free from Deans and her satisfaction with the outcome. Through a pre-nuptial agreement, Gillian safeguarded the bulk of her lottery earnings for herself and her family, ensuring Deans would not be entitled to a significant share in the event of a divorce.
