Users of various devices, including Samsung models, have encountered display issues while using the Gmail app, with reports of screen flickering and text disappearing. The problem has prompted frustration among affected individuals, who have taken to social media platforms to voice their complaints.
One user, Jeremiah, expressed dissatisfaction on X, addressing Gmail directly and highlighting ongoing flickering problems on folding phones like the Samsung Fold. Similar grievances have been shared on Google’s support forums, with users describing difficulties in reading emails due to persistent screen flickering despite attempting various troubleshooting steps.
Google’s product expert, Kimiya Kitani, has identified the root cause as related to Android System WebView, a fundamental Android component enabling apps to showcase web content internally. Kitani noted that some devices, particularly Samsung tablets, are experiencing sporadic issues with Android System WebView, which has been escalated to Google for resolution.
While the exact number of impacted users remains unknown, reports indicate that Samsung foldable devices such as the Galaxy Z Fold series and specific Galaxy tablets are among those most affected. In the interim, a temporary solution has been suggested: rotating the device to different orientations can mitigate the flickering problem.
The recommended workaround involves opening emails in portrait mode, rotating the device to landscape mode until the screen stabilizes, and then reverting to portrait mode. This interim fix is advised until Google releases a permanent solution to address the screen flickering issue.
