A security guard at Tesco is in critical condition in a hospital after experiencing brain damage from a choking incident while on duty, according to his family.
Mohamed Nassar, aged 58, was working at the Tesco Express store on New Bailey Street in Salford, near Manchester city center, on May 8 when the unfortunate event took place.
While on a break, the father of three choked on a doughnut and suffered a cardiac arrest, his family revealed. Paramedics arrived and managed to revive him, but his heart stopped for a total of 23 minutes, leading to severe brain damage, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.
Nassar and his family relocated from London to Manchester in 2020, residing in Ardwick. Formerly a musician, he has been employed by a third-party security firm for approximately five years.
His son, 23-year-old Seif Abdelwaneis, described the shock his mother, Nancy Elkarnshawy, and sisters Nariman, 28, and Malak, 14, felt upon learning about his collapse at work, prompting them to rush to the hospital.
Nassar is currently on life support in intensive care undergoing tests to assess the extent of his brain damage. Seif mentioned that doctors have conveyed the grim prognosis of his survival to the family, who are maintaining a constant presence at his bedside in Manchester Royal Infirmary.
Seif portrayed his father as an exceptionally kind individual who prioritized helping others. Nassar was known for his sociable nature, strong customer relationships, and dedication to his family.
