“Brits on Hunger Strike in Iranian Prison: Desperate Plea for Release”

Date:

Lindsay and Craig Foreman have resorted to a final hunger strike while being held in an Iranian prison on suspicion of espionage.

Craig is currently in the third week of his hunger strike, a critical stage that poses risks of lasting harm and organ failure, whereas Lindsay is on the 11th day of her own protest. Recent information obtained by the Mirror suggests that prison guards reportedly played a cruel trick on psychologist Lindsay in an effort to discourage her hunger strike, causing her to lag a few days behind her husband.

The pair, originally from East Sussex, were apprehended in January 2025 while traveling through Iran and have been in detention for over 500 days. Despite the UK government publicly declaring them as “innocent tourists,” the couple has faced harsh conditions at Tehran’s infamous Evin Prison, prompting them to initiate the hunger strike. The Foreign Office advises against travel to Iran due to allegations of using foreign nationals as hostages for political leverage on the global stage.

Communication with their family was abruptly severed after Lindsay and Craig conducted an interview with the BBC, shedding light on the dire circumstances inside Evin Prison. The couple’s son, Joe Bennett, revealed that Lindsay was misled by prison authorities showing her a falsified letter purportedly from Craig, dissuading her from continuing her hunger strike. This revelation left Lindsay feeling betrayed and fueled her determination to persist.

The grim conditions at Evin Prison, as described by the family, include witnessing executions, brutal punishments, and an atmosphere of fear and intimidation. Despite the emotional toll on the family, they continue to advocate for Lindsay and Craig’s release, recently submitting a petition with over 84,000 signatures at 10 Downing Street.

Efforts are underway by the British embassy in Iran to restore Lindsay and Craig’s communication channels with their family. Official statements from the FCDO emphasize the UK government’s unwavering commitment to securing the safe return of the couple. Support for their release can be demonstrated by signing the petition and contributing to the GoFundMe campaign.
