A man in his 60s has been questioned by police under caution in connection with the investigation into misconduct by former Harrods chief Mohamed Al Fayed for suspected involvement in facilitating rape and human trafficking, as announced by the Metropolitan Police .
The police disclosed today that four individuals have been interviewed under caution as part of the ongoing investigation.
No arrests have been made yet, and the inquiry is still in progress.
To date, more than 154 victims have come forward with allegations of sexual abuse, rape, sexual exploitation, and human trafficking against the former Harrods proprietor, who passed away in 2023 at the age of 94.
Commander Angela Craggs of the Metropolitan Police stated: “The focus of this investigation remains on the victims. This latest development signifies a significant milestone in a thorough and extensive inquiry.
“Although Al Fayed is deceased and cannot face legal action, we are resolute in holding accountable anyone suspected of complicity in his wrongdoing.
“We urge anyone with pertinent information, whether directly impacted by Mohamed Al Fayed’s actions or with concerns about potential accomplices or offenders, to reach out to us. Information can also be shared anonymously with Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111 or through their online platform.
“Further updates will be provided when feasible and without compromising any legal proceedings or investigations.”
Al Fayed, originally named Mohamed Fayed but later adopting ‘Al’ as a title emulating Arab royalty, also held ownership of the Ritz Paris hotel and Fulham FC.
French authorities initiated a separate formal inquiry into Mohamed and his deceased brother Salah Al Fayed last year, focusing on allegations of aggravated human trafficking involving multiple victims.
