A man who worked as a zookeeper has been taken into custody for allegedly placing his spouse into an animal incinerator. Tatsuya Suzuki is suspected of moving his wife’s body to a wildlife park in Asahikawa, Japan, where it was burned in an animal crematorium. Suzuki, 33, was apprehended on Wednesday under suspicion of tampering with a deceased body.
Family members reported Yui Suzuki, the man’s wife, missing on April 23 after losing contact with her at the end of March. On the same day, law enforcement reached out to the zoo and requested to interview Suzuki, who agreed to cooperate voluntarily.
Following Suzuki’s admission that he “disposed of my wife’s body in the incinerator,” authorities discovered portions of the 33-year-old woman’s remains. The couple resided together in Asahikawa, Japan, and Suzuki had allegedly made threatening remarks to his wife before the tragic incident.
Investigators are now looking into the possibility of Suzuki being involved in his wife’s death and are trying to establish a motive. During interrogations, Suzuki hinted at his role in her demise, prompting authorities to consider potential murder charges.
The Asahiyama Zoo, a popular tourist spot in Japan, temporarily shut down in preparation for the summer season and postponed its reopening from April 29 to May 1 due to the ongoing police inquiry. A local resident described Suzuki as a reserved individual who appeared to have a close relationship with his wife.
