Police in Muscatine, Iowa, are currently investigating a tragic incident where six individuals lost their lives in a series of shootings, believed to have been carried out by a family member who then took his own life.
The authorities were alerted to the scene in Muscatine, approximately 50 miles southeast of Cedar Rapids, where four individuals were found shot to death. Muscatine Police Chief Anthony Kies disclosed this information during a press briefing.
The suspect, identified as 52-year-old Ryan Willis McFarland, was later located by officers on a city trail in Muscatine. When approached by the police, McFarland turned the gun on himself, as confirmed by Kies.
Two additional male victims, presumed to be related to McFarland, were subsequently discovered dead in separate locations within the city. One was found at his residence, while the other was located inside a business establishment, according to Kies.
The identities of the victims have not been released by the authorities at this time. Chief Kies expressed deep sorrow over the tragic events, stating, “Today I simply do not have the words for this act of evil and its impact on our community.”
Law enforcement officials are actively investigating the shootings, processing the crime scenes, and conducting interviews. They are urging anyone with relevant information to contact the major crimes unit.
It was confirmed by Kies that McFarland had a criminal record, but further details were not disclosed.
