A man who unlawfully filmed a woman changing in a shower cubicle at a popular swimming pool in Dundee has been banned from attending recreational facilities. Craig Ellingford, aged 44, covertly recorded the woman at Olympia Leisure Pool. He waited until she was alone, then sneaked into the adjacent cubicle as she undressed.
The woman noticed Ellingford’s phone aimed at her as she bent down, causing her to confront him. Ellingford admitted to voyeurism at the leisure pool complex and using his mobile phone to observe the woman undressing.
During the court hearing, it was revealed that Ellingford was observed on CCTV changing into his swimwear and monitoring the woman’s movements. He deliberately waited for her to enter the shower area before positioning himself in the cubicle next to hers.
When the woman questioned him about taking photos, Ellingford ignored her, prompting her to leave the cubicle and report the incident to the authorities. She appeared visibly shaken and distressed when speaking with the police.
In court, Ellingford expressed remorse through his solicitor, acknowledging the impact of his actions on the victim and his family. The sheriff imposed a conduct order on Ellingford, prohibiting him from leisure facilities, placing him under supervision, and registering him as a sex offender for nine months. Additionally, Ellingford was sentenced to 165 hours of unpaid work.
Sheriff Mark O’Hanlon emphasized the severity of Ellingford’s actions and the impact on the victim, highlighting the concerning nature of the incident.
