The heartbreaking news of the passing of her 20-year-old son, James ‘Weston’ Higginbotham, was shared through a heartfelt Facebook post on Saturday morning. His body was discovered in a mountainous area outside Kyoto after a thorough search-and-rescue mission.

The circumstances surrounding Weston’s death are still unclear. He had traveled to Japan to celebrate his younger brother’s graduation and was last seen on May 29. Nancy mentioned that Weston was emotionally distressed before his disappearance, following some family disagreements during their stay in a shared hotel room.

Noted as someone who valued his alone time in nature, Weston’s fondness for hiking and exploring trails was highlighted by his mother. The family used the Life360 app to track Weston’s movements before he went missing, with the last confirmed sighting being at Yamashina Station.
