A man who initiated a tear gas attack that led to the shutdown of a hospital has been captured on CCTV footage and subsequently sentenced to over three years in jail.
The incident occurred at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary around 5:30 pm on October 10, 2025, prompting emergency services to respond to reports of a disturbance and the assault of two individuals.
Piotr Huczynski, aged 37, admitted to multiple charges, including assault and recklessly discharging a firearm by spraying a harmful substance, during a court appearance in January.
Following his guilty plea, Huczynski received a 44-month prison term and a six-year ban from driving. Surveillance footage from the event has been made public, depicting the harrowing assault as it transpired.
The CCTV recording shows Huczynski deploying CS spray on a medic and a security guard in the hospital’s A&E department after becoming agitated by extended wait times.
As a result of the attack, the hospital had to be evacuated and remained closed for three hours. Huczynski can be observed flailing his arms while being escorted out of the emergency unit.
After three staff members blocked his exit, Huczynski brandished CS spray and aimed it at them before fleeing the scene. Despite being prohibited from driving until 2034, he escaped in a vehicle.
Inspector Katy Townhill, upon the guilty verdict, remarked, “This was a reckless incident that caused injuries to two individuals. Huczynski demonstrated a blatant disregard for the well-being of others in the hospital and will face the repercussions of his actions.”
Expressing gratitude for the public’s cooperation and understanding during the incident, Townhill emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards violence in healthcare settings and assured that law enforcement would collaborate with partners to ensure justice is served.
