Two teenagers have been apprehended, and a man is in critical condition at a hospital following an alleged severe attack in the city center of Newcastle.
According to Northumbria Police, a man in his 50s was cycling on Claremont Road in the city at 5:10 pm yesterday when he was confronted by two individuals on a moped. One of them reportedly pushed him off his bike, causing him to fall to the ground. The victim sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
After launching an inquiry, Northumbria Police arrested two boys, aged 16 and 14, at Walker Park on suspicion of intending to cause serious bodily harm. The suspects are currently in police custody as investigations proceed.
Certain sections of Claremont Road and Walker Park have been closed to allow authorities to conduct investigations. Police are urging any witnesses to come forward and provide information about the incident, particularly those who were in the vicinity of Claremont Road shortly after 5 pm and may have dash cam footage.
