A mother has recounted experiencing a distressing situation when she received a call informing her that a stranger had picked up her child from the nursery. Jody Riley, aged 37 and residing in Formby, was at a nearby café on June 10 when she received the alarming call from Kids Planet Crosby, the nursery attended by her daughter Rosie McDonald.
The call, received around 2:20 pm, revealed that someone had taken Rosie, but the staff assured Jody that her daughter was safely back at the nursery. Jody expressed her shock and panic upon hearing the news, emphasizing that such an experience is a parent’s worst fear.
The incident involved another child’s grandfather mistakenly picking up Rosie while she was asleep and driving off with her for about 10 minutes before the error was realized. Jody expressed confusion about how the man managed to navigate through security doors, enter the toddler room, and leave unnoticed with her child.
Jody and her partner Gary McDonald, who both own businesses, usually collect Rosie from the nursery at specific times. Jody mentioned the use of facial recognition technology for entry, highlighting the usual protocol of being informed of the child’s location before picking them up.
Despite Rosie being safely returned to the nursery, Jody raised concerns about the lack of answers regarding the incident. She expressed her relief that her daughter was unharmed but stressed the emotional toll the situation took on her. Jody decided to keep Rosie at home for the time being, as she felt shaken by the incident and wanted to prioritize her daughter’s well-being.
