The mother of Barnaby Webber has honored her son in a poignant message, vowing for “accountability” three years after the tragic Nottingham attacks. Barnaby, along with fellow students Grace O’Malley-Kumar and school caretaker Ian Coates, lost their lives to fatal stabbings on June 13, 2023. The families of the victims have individually commemorated their loved ones as they continue to mourn.
Emma Webber, Barnaby’s mother, shared a series of photos showcasing Barnaby at different stages of his life, including a touching snapshot of him seated on her lap. In her emotional tribute, Mrs. Webber remembered Barnaby’s life and expressed her determination for justice, saying, “There will be accountability for You. For Grace. For Ian.”
Following her post, an outpouring of support flooded in from hundreds of individuals on social media platforms. Among them, Louise Dixon offered words of comfort, stating, “Thinking of you especially today and always. Barnaby, Grace, and Ian.”
Mrs. Webber recently called for a meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer, asserting that Valdo Calocane, who confessed to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, had “escaped justice.” An inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the tragic events is ongoing, with findings scheduled for release in May of the following year.
Expressing her frustration at the legal outcome, Mrs. Webber criticized the handling of the case, emphasizing the need for accountability and transparency. She demanded a meeting with government officials to address the perceived injustices and ensure that those responsible are held to account.
In a separate incident, an independent review of Calocane’s care by the NHS revealed significant shortcomings, prompting an apology from Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust chief Ifti Majid to Coates’ partner, Elaine Newton. However, Elaine deemed the apology belated and insufficient, highlighting the devastating impact of the NHS’s mishandling of Calocane’s situation.
