Britons are bracing for heavy rain as 18 regions are on high alert due to a 250-mile span of rainfall sweeping across the nation. Following a period of damp and cool weather, scorching temperatures are anticipated, but before that, more adverse weather is predicted to arrive by Tuesday with substantial rainfall expected.
The movement of low-pressure systems from the Atlantic is causing unsettled conditions and rain in the middle of the week. According to BBC weather forecaster Jennifer Bartram, the wind will gradually ease from Monday to Tuesday, but a new cluster of weather fronts is approaching, bringing heavier rain, particularly affecting parts of southwest England, Wales, and the Midlands on Tuesday afternoon.
The Met Office’s map indicates that the most intense rainfall is projected for Tuesday afternoon and evening, affecting primarily the Midlands, southwest regions, parts of Wales, and Scotland, with rainfall rates reaching up to 8mm per hour before 7pm in some areas, and up to 32mm per hour in northern Scotland during the same period.
The Met Office’s forecast for Monday suggests dry conditions with sunny intervals, while showers may move east across southern regions, potentially with thunderstorms. Cloud cover will increase in the west and north, leading to evening rain. Winds will be light to moderate, and temperatures will be around average.
Looking ahead to Tuesday through Thursday, the forecast indicates cloudy conditions in the west and north with periods of rain, occasionally heavy. Brighter intervals will develop, with the likelihood of blustery showers later, especially in the north. The southeast is expected to be relatively warm, while temperatures elsewhere will be near average.
