Britons are being cautioned about the possibility of experiencing a heatwave in certain parts of the United Kingdom by the end of the upcoming week, according to meteorologists. The southern regions could witness temperatures soaring up to 28C or higher by Thursday, as per forecasts from the Met Office.
The southern and southeastern areas of England are expected to experience the highest temperature spikes, although thunderstorms and rain showers are also anticipated in some locations. Monday is predicted to be dry and calm in many areas, except for the North East where it might be cloudy and cooler with chances of showers and thunderstorms.
Tuesday could bring additional rainfall from the coast. However, Meteorologist Honor Criswick from the Met Office mentioned that a high-pressure system moving across the country will bring warm and humid conditions, leading to temperatures surpassing the seasonal averages in certain regions.
Criswick stated, “The southern and Southeastern regions are set to heat up throughout the week. High pressure is building up, and a warm air mass is moving from continental Europe. While it’s uncertain if it will evolve into a heatwave, the weather is certainly turning warmer, possibly even hot by the week’s end, mainly confined to the South East.”
She added, “Other areas will also experience a rise in temperatures, but with high humidity, they are likely to be overcast with chances of rain and showers. By Thursday, London could reach around 28C, edging towards the high 20s.”
Looking ahead, the warm weather is expected to persist. The Met Office’s long-range forecast for June 29 to July 13 suggests that high pressure near the UK will bring dry and settled conditions, with temperatures above normal and occasional thunderstorms, especially in the south. Towards mid-July, there may be a shift in weather patterns, potentially leading to more unsettled conditions as high pressure weakens or moves to the north or west of the UK.
