A resourceful teenager swiftly came to the rescue of two individuals who had fallen from an inflatable toy in the waters off the Isle of Skye. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) commended the teen for his quick actions.
Volunteers from RNLI’s Kyle of Lochalsh station received a distress call around 9pm on Saturday regarding two men struggling in Broadford Bay. However, the teenager, believed to be approximately 16 years old, spotted the distressed pair before the RNLI team arrived. He took his own boat out and safely brought the men back to shore.
After confirming the men had no injuries, the RNLI crew departed the scene. Andrew MacDonald, helm at Kyle RNLI, praised the teenager’s prompt response, emphasizing that his intervention prevented a potentially grave situation.
MacDonald reminded the public to avoid using inflatable toys in open water, recommending their use only in swimming pools. He also stressed the importance of wearing life jackets and having a means of communication in case of emergencies while on the water.
