An evacuation was carried out after a suspected grenade was unearthed at a residence.
Authorities called in the bomb squad to deal with the situation at Kirkstall Close in Chorley, where the area was sealed off subsequent to the discovery at a property in the dead-end street. Four individuals, three men, and a woman in their twenties, were apprehended.
The discovery of the suspected grenade occurred during a property search on June 21 following a police chase in Preston.
Law enforcement started pursuing a red Ford Fiesta on New Hall Lane around 9.40 pm, and the pursuit concluded at Brockholes Brow, where the car was brought to a stop using tactical methods to prevent the driver from fleeing onto the M6 motorway.
Upon exiting the vehicle, the 20-year-old male driver from Chorley brandished what seemed to be a firearm at officers, which was later confirmed to be a BB gun. Additionally, he was found in possession of two knives and the imitation firearm.
The driver was detained on suspicion of firearm possession, failure to stop, carrying an offensive weapon, and refusal to undergo a breath test.
Three passengers—two men aged 20 and 21 from Preston, and a 21-year-old woman—were also taken into custody on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon. All four suspects remain in custody.
Lancashire Police shut down part of Brockholes Brow overnight, and their investigation led them to the residence on Kirkstall Close in Chorley, where the grenade was found during a search.
A representative for the police stated, “At 9.40 pm yesterday, our officers noticed a red Ford Fiesta on New Hall Lane with suspected illegal license plates.
“We signaled for the Fiesta to stop; however, it evaded us, leading to a pursuit. After employing tactical techniques, the vehicle was halted on Brockholes Brow in Preston. Upon stopping, the driver exited the Fiesta, pointing what was perceived as a handgun at our officers.
“He was apprehended, and subsequent to a search, we discovered two knives. The alleged weapon was identified as a BB Gun. The driver, a 20-year-old man from Chorley, was arrested on suspicion of firearm possession, failure to stop, carrying an offensive weapon, and refusal to undergo a breath test. He is currently in custody.
“The passengers—a 20-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman from Preston, along with a 21-year-old man—were later apprehended on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon. They also remain in custody.
“While conducting searches at a property in Kirkstall Close, Chorley, as part of our investigations, we stumbled upon what is believed to be
